Anonymous question

We care for each other, but we disagree on children, career location, family involvement, religion, lifestyle or money. Can love solve this?

IIR
IIR response

Love is important, but long-term life design needs workable agreements. Some differences can be negotiated; some become chronic pain because they require one person to give up a core life need.

Do not rush to either sacrifice or separate. First classify the difference: preference, negotiable value, or non-negotiable life direction. Then ask what each person would honestly feel five years from now if they gave this up.

Clarity may be painful, but unclear sacrifice often becomes resentment.

Practical next steps

List the major future decisions. Mark each as flexible, negotiable or non-negotiable. Discuss the non-negotiables first with honesty and kindness.
