Anonymous question

We are separated and communication about the child becomes tense. How do we reduce conflict and keep the child out of adult issues?

IIR
IIR response

Co-parenting works best when the child’s routine becomes the focus, not the old relationship argument. Keep communication brief, factual and child-centred.

Avoid using the child as messenger, emotional support or spy. Children should not have to manage adult feelings.

If conversations escalate, written communication with clear points may help. In high-conflict or safety-related cases, seek legal, counselling or professional mediation support.

Practical next steps

Use a shared child schedule, standard update format and neutral language. Discuss only child logistics unless both agree to a broader conversation.
